Keep healthy whilst enjoying pension
Most people after working hard all their lives look forward to the day when they can draw their pension and retire from work. For many it will be the first chance they have had to please themselves and perhaps take up a new hobby. Keeping fit and healthy is always important for people of all ages and for the over 60’s keeping active is essential. Just because someone has retired from work shouldn’t mean sitting all day watching television, going on the computer or reading.
Physical activity is the best form of exercise and many people take up a new sport such as swimming, golf and hiking. People who enjoy gardening will keep fit just by pottering around in the garden and jobs such as weeding, mowing the grass, cutting the hedges and digging will help pensioners to keep healthy. As people get older there is a bigger risk of arthritis, rheumatism and other problems making it difficult to get around. Keeping active and not sitting for too long will help mobility and prevent joints becoming stiff. Retirement can be a time when people are able to travel and take more holidays. British life insurance (Britische Lebensversicherung) has enabled many people over 60 to travel and see the world. Travelling and taking holidays is very expensive so pensioners on a tight budget will be unable to do this.
Some retired people might take up ballroom dancing where they can socialise and meet new friends. Others who are keen gardeners will perhaps look for an allotment to grow vegetables such as potatoes, carrots, peas, beans and cauliflowers. By doing this not only keeps them active but helps cut down on the food bill. Buying organic vegetables and fruit can be expensive so growing your own is the best way. In recent years running an allotment has become very popular amongst younger people who realise the benefits from growing their own vegetables. Many over 60’s like to visit the theatre when a favourite show is on. They can usually get a reduced rate at certain times of the week when it is not so busy, and may also be eligible for discounts on household insurance or a life insurance quote. Walking the dog is another way to keep active as it doesn’t matter what the weather is doing, the dog always needs to go for a walk. Looking after the grandchildren also keeps pensioners active as well as helping them to stay young. It doesn’t matter what sort of activity pensioners enjoy so long as it keeps them moving around and by staying active it will be beneficial to their health. Some people choose to learn a new language or learn how to use the computer and the internet. This keeps their brain working and stops a lot of elderly people becoming senile. People over 60 enjoy their retirement years much better than our grandparents did. Many pensioners own their own cars so are able to get around freely which was virtually unheard of generations ago. Today there are so many activities pensioners can take part in which not only keeps them active but helps them to meet different people. Volunteers are always needed at the hospitals, charity shops and schools and older people who have time to spare are always welcome.
